Picnik is cool, and doesn’t include ants

So this is pretty cool. I was looking for a nice free solution to let my clients resize, crop and do minor edits to their photos online. There are several options out there and most look like junk, then I found picnik.

What I like about it is that it’s free, and offers very basic options and a very user-friendly interface that I would feel very comfortable sending clients to.

I know I’ve found something great when I can go to the site, do what I need to do and get a result within a reasonable amount of time. Below are a couple other screenshots showing how easy it is to crop and save a photo.

Here I go cropping a photo. I have the option of doing it by hand like a pro or selecting the exact number of pixels that I want to crop to. I love the "scale photo" option which automatically resizes the photo to your exact dimensions.

Now I'm ready to save. I can select from a crazy number of formats: jpg, png, gif, bmp, pdf and tiff! It allows you to choose your compression quality with a humorous saying that accompanies your choice. Finally, it shows the estimated image file size which is just plain cool.

So all in all, it’s a pretty powerful little tool they got going on there. I think I will definitely be recommending it to my clients who are not priveledged to own a copy of Photoshop.
